Planned Obsolescence V.1.2 by Olliefant Planned Obsolescence V.1.2 by Olliefant
Planned obsolescence is the bi-product of the free market system. The idea is [for a company] to decrease the lifespan of a product (say, an iPhone) and then sell it, knowing its going to break exactly when designated to, then conveniently come out with the "brand new" model with "all new" features.
"So what?" you say, well, where do you think your old iPhone went? How about your first phone? Your old tube tv?
They're not in the museum. yet.
Comments and favorites are much appreciated :) And to whom it might concern: I'm not editing this.

Wow, I never knew... Terrible to hear about this kind of thing still happening in our world, but I do want to read more about this.

Its a very over-looked issue, mostly because the companies in question control the media, they don't want us to stop buying their product.

Good thing they haven't gotten to the internet yet... And good thing my country doesn't ban connection to certain sites.

Nice work, and the "Planned obsolescence" is so very true, Use of mostly child labour is wrong, but yes they do use far to much child labour, and this is how a free market economy works, well it is now, however it work much better for many hundreds of years.

I really like your conveyor with the people buy in goods then dumping them,  could make a cool animation :)

I've actually thought about making this an animation, but there are just so many good animations on planned obsolescence already all over the internet (mostly youtube).

I do not want to become the devil's advocate!
But this is the system within which we live.
We destroy old things, so we can build new things!
So millions upon millions people can go to their work, every day!
And not only when you decide to buy a new  phone or TV for example!
Now. I'm not saying that the system is good!
but you can't change things like this in a lifetime!
A socio economic restructuring like this was the Industrial Revolution you now!
Ιn this life tigers hunt and kill gazelles to feed their toddlers!
Don't be naive,be careful when subject like this rituse to a simple slogan!

That means, that work was done!
Think like that work as a distraction!

PS: this is not to be received as insult

Now, I don't want this to come off as offensive,
but while you are entitled to your opinion, I have the feeling that yours in particular is dangerous.
Dangerous, meaning that its an apathetic, and naive, standpoint.
The most dangerous phrase in the American language is "We've always done things this way", and the notion that
there is nothing to be done about this paradigm is the product of social indoctrination.
Ps: This is not an insult.

I don't want to appear as apathetic,i just have other priorities, but ok!
Say that we see the world from different angles and,
because we have different views,we perceive this world different!
I think you misunderstood me,there is always something to be done!
we disagree on the subject of our action.

Absolutely, I didn't mean for it to come off as offensive,
I didn't mean to call you apathetic, in fact planned obsolescence and the free market system could work, on a planet with infinite resources.
Sadly we live on a planet with very finite resources, and so the system simply doesn't work, its eventually going to lead to the desolation of our planet.
Of course you're entitled to your opinion, actually I've only been lucky enough to meet one other individual who shared my ideals,
but that also lets me explore other ideals and opinions. :)
When it comes down to it, I'm just happy that you took the time to read it.

Planned obsolescence is pretty horrible and wasteful. That's why I make sure to care for my products the best I can. This is a pretty great piece explaining it in accessible term for the general public and how it works in such a messed-up system like capitalism.

One city I lived in they do have a dump made for some short time gift economy.  Were you can take furniture left behind.  I used to take bed boxes and make the wood into stretch bars for paintings because they are free but also pre-dried.  But I can not do that any more.  So All that stuff fills up the mountains before it has a second chance.  I hope that clarifies what I am getting at.

And your welcome :)

Its the way humans are, and "they" know this, they want us to think that all our thoughts are completely our own when the truth is just not that.
The thing is that these factors are run by people who are smarter than your teacher, 'cause its much easier to be stupid enough to feel smart, but its hard to be smart enough to feel stupid.

And now I am sadly reminded that most of my stuff breaks due to my own incompetence.

Says something when almost everything that fails, fails due to lack of care, lack of attention or sheer stupidity.

It will continue for as long as the bourgeoisie can keep the workers thinking that the system is to their benefit, or that they do not have any power to change it. No, I disagree!
